The Harlem Candle Company Launches 'Medieval Garden’ Candle with The Met Store
in Honor of the Museum’s Middle Ages-Inspired Gardens at The Met Cloisters

December 13, 2021, New York, NY: Today, The Harlem Candle Company announced the launch of a special collaboration with The Met Store in celebration of the museum’s Middle Ages-inspired gardens at The Met Cloisters. Located on a hilltop in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan, The Met Cloisters contains three unique, enclosed gardens — the Judy Black Garden at the Cuxa Cloister, the Bonnefont Cloister garden, and the Trie Cloister garden — whose plantings are based on information found in documents and works of art from the Middle Ages of medieval Europe.

The spectacular enclosed gardens create a meditative environment teeming with hundreds of herbs and flowers that would have grown during the Middle Ages. This serene, peaceful setting is the inspiration for the HCC x The Met: MEDIEVAL GARDEN candle.

MEDIEVAL GARDEN pays tribute to The Met Cloisters with a vibrant opening of juicy pomegranate, a symbol of joyful fruitfulness, melding beautifully with the calming and cleansing effect of frankincense and myrrh. Rose de Mai, black currant, and olibanum form a dramatic heart, as resinous cedarwood tempered by golden amber and musk, brings a warm, sensual finish to this very personal spiritual blend. It is sold exclusively at The Met Store, online at store.metmuseum.org, and on harlemcandlecompany.com.

A noteworthy detail about this exclusive candle is the packaging. The MEDIEVAL GARDEN candle comes in a black box with the signature Harlem Candle Co. “H” adorned throughout and features the vintage nightclub map of Harlem illustrated by E. Simms Campbell on the interior.  This design element makes the box a real keepsake.
